Elsie Monica Colomby was born January 23rd 1907 in Frankfurt, Germany. Played the piano and sang beautifully. Married to Fred Colomby in Berlin. Fred once an opera singer (in Europe). They came to New York in April of 1939.

Three sons:

Jules Colomby (deceased)- trumpet player, started Signal Records (the first music minus one label). Signal also recorded Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver, Kenny Clarke, Art Blakey, Red Rodney, etc. He was a record producer (Prestige) and was an A&R man for Riverside Records. Organized the Monk at Town Hall concert.

Harry Colomby- Managed Thelonious Monk for 14 years and discovered and managed actor Michael Keaton. Harry is a writer and film & television producer.

Bobby Colomby- Founder & Drummer & Producer of Blood Sweat & Tears. Bobby went on to produce Jaco Pastorius,Michael Jackson,Harry Connick Jr,Julio Iglaisias,Rodney Crowell,Earth Wind & Fire,Kenny Loggins,Richard Marx,Thomas Dolby,Robbie Nevil. Senior Vice President Sony Music, Vice President of A&R Capitol Records, Vice President of A&R Epic Records. Music Correspondent on Entertainment Tonight. Producer and Manager of Chris Botti

Larry Dorr, manager of Blood, Sweat & Tears, established the Elsie Monica Colomby Scholarship at Berklee College of Music in Boston,Mass in honor of Bobby Colomby’s mother and the family’s lifelong devotion to music.

The Scholarship is awarded annually to a student who struggles to pay for the essentials of college studies.
